Guide My Sails, Words & Music by Rachel Uda Murdock
I recently remastered this song that was originally released in 1999, just prior to my LDS mission. I sold CDs of my original music to help pay for my mission to Japan. Life doesn’t always go where we expect, and there are times when the winds feel uncertain.
Standing at [music and singing] this crossroads, waiting for my turn. Glancing down [singing] the path of life. The many bumps and turns. I'm scared to journey on. I'm scared to make a choice. There's [singing] so many decisions direct me. Father, will you guide my sails? Cause [singing] the wind to blow. Direct your servant where to go. Send me where I'm needed [singing] most. And lead me down that road and give me [singing] courage to do your will.
Please guide myself. [singing] Some say I should take this path and then [singing] some say another. They both look nice and straight to me. I ask my heavenly father, "What blessings are prepared for me? What choices should [singing] I make to reach my full potential and rest within your grace? [singing] Father, will you guide my sins? Cause [singing] the wind to blow. Direct your servant where to go. [music and singing] Send me where I'm needed most and lead me down [music and singing] that road and give me courage to do your will. [singing] Please guide myself.
I sail through stormy waters. [singing] I'm tossed and thrown about. I struggle hard to hold my course and cling to clouds of doubt. Oh God [singing and music] in heaven, is this the way that I'm supposed to go? How [music and singing] come triumphant through the waves? Your love has made me whole. Father, will [music and singing] you guide my sails? Cause the wind to blow. Direct your [music and singing] servant where to go.
Send me where I need it most. And lead me [music and singing] down that road and give me courage to do your [music and singing] will. Please guide myself. [singing] My journey's [music and singing] drawing to a close. The footpath is worn [singing] fine. I've done the things you've asked of me. Lived my life [singing and music] despite the fears and doubts, the troubled seas, the calm and quiet nights.
I've loved the ones you've sent [singing] to me. They've filled my life with light. Father, will you guide my sails? Cause the wind to blow. Direct [music and singing] your servant where to go. Send me where I'm needed [singing] most and lead me down that road [music and singing] and give me courage to do your will. Please guide [singing] myself.
